Accredited Visiting Service (AVS)

This Service works to decrease the level of social isolation and loneliness of older people in the community. We provide a trained, caring Volunteer who will visit regularly for companionship and friendship.

The Age Concern Tauranga Accredited Visiting Service provides companionship and support for older people who may be lonely and socially isolated. A number of older people in our community, for various reasons, spend most of each day of each week alone.

As a Volunteer Visitor you would enhance the well-being and quality of life of an older person, complement existing services and offer them the opportunity of building new links in the community.

The visitor spends exclusive quality time with their older person a on regular basis.

Age Concern Tauranga:

  • Recruits and selects Volunteer Visitors
  • Provides initial training and ongoing support for Visitors
  • Matches a Visitor with an older person (client)

Do You Have:

  • An understanding and caring of older people?
  • Warmth and friendliness?
  • Good communication skills?
  • Respect for confidentiality?
  • Ability to work co-operatively within Age Concern boundaries?
  • Cultural sensitivity and awareness?

Often the greatest gift you can give another person is your time and friendship!
